December 5- Restorative Yoga for the Holiday Season
with Naama Gidron
Restorative yoga isthe perfect antidote to the stress we experience in modern living, especially around the holidays. In Restorative yoga we use props to support the physical body in the asanas (postures) so that the muscles can let go of their holding patterns and a deeper state of relaxation can take place. Longer holds in the asanas (5-15 minutes) and conscious breathing support this release. Restorative yoga calms and sooths the nervous system, and promotes deep rest and rejuvination.

Traditional Ashtanga Mysore Practice
Mysore classes resume September 8th.
No practice on Moon Days

Beginning in September, Jill will be offering Mysore Practice sessions Monday & Wed from 6:45-9am, and Fridays from 9-11am. Self-Led Ashtanga Practice sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:45-9am ($5 studio donation) Students may purchase a monthly unlimited pass for $108, or a 10-class card for $140 or drop-in for $18.

For thousands of years, yoga has been taught from teacher to student on a one-to-one basis. Traditionally, a student has been taken through his or her own development at an appropriate pace. This method is still used in Mysore, India where Sri K. Pattabhi Jois taught this method, and his grandson, R. Sharath Rangaswamy, teaches today.

In Mysore classes, students are taught individually in a group setting. Beginners are introduced to a set sequence of poses little by little and are encouraged to remember the sequence as they progress. More experienced practitioners are guided to deepen and further develop their practice, as they more through each series. Thus each student works within the traditional series, but with integrity at his or her own pace.

The consistency of sequence in Ashtanga yoga allows students to focus on the sound and rhythm of the breath rather than on the voice of a teacher, making practice a moving meditation and allowing a deepening connection to the practice. As students advance through the Ashtanga series' at a pace that matches their individual needs and abilities, they continue to receive individual, tailored instruction, hands on adjustments, and personal attention from the teacher.

Over the course of the series, students will be encouraged and inspired as they discover how attention, discipline and commitment create a fulfilling and honest practice.
